DC Live! Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, Part 10 Livestream
After two long weeks, my Final Fantasy IV: The After Years livestreams have returned to their regularly scheduled hours.
Last week I finished Edge’s story, and so far he’s the only character who’s bothered to run from the racist Lunarian girl. Next up is Porom’s story. The first half it was spent in the past where she and Palom where still children. She was dragged by her brother to the Underground Waterway in Damcyan in order to fight the boss, Cooler Mammoth. The boss actually gave me some trouble as it’s different from Octomammoth, the original boss in Final Fantasy IV. (For example, Cooler Mammoth absorbs Thunder magic, while it’s a weakness for Octomammoth.)
During my run of the entire Damcyan section, I couldn’t help but lament how Porom doesn’t have the entire chapter to herself. Not only is she forced to split it with her brother, he’s given the most agency for the plot. Thankfully, after this journey to the past plays out the game returns to the present. There Porom is an adult at least. However, the quest she embarks on with Palom, Rydia, and Cid is at the request of her older brother. He wishes to visit the Feymarch in his journey to become a sage, like Tellah. Meanwhile, Porom is just along for the ride. As I finish off her chapter tonight, let’s hope this woman is eventually given more agency in the second half of her own damned chapter.
