DC Live! Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, Part 8 Livestream

First, Happy Easter to everyone who’s celebrating today. I’m going out for dinner tonight in celebration of the holiday which is why the livestream is going to start two hours late. Sometimes it’s good to have a time buffer, you know?

As for Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, I finished Palom’s chapter. It started out with a promising story and a character who didn’t seem to be a moron for the sake of being a moron. Of course, the writers at Square Enix couldn’t let that be and simply had to shoehorn in events from the original game for the sake of a callback. The logic doesn’t work other than Palom trying to do something heroic, but pointless just because he could.

Mercifully, the chapter ended. However, the next chapter on the list was Edge’s. I didn’t really appreciate him much as a character in Final Fantasy IV (though looking back, I probably could have utilized him better). Even so, I was curious to see how his chapter would play out. There were promising bits of story– like the fact that 17 years have gone by and Edge never bothered to choose a queen for himself despite becoming King of Eblan. The story alludes to the fact that he still has a soft spot for Rydia. For whatever reason he hasn’t made his feelings known to her.

This being The After Years, that intrigue had to be squashed the moment it was time to actually play the game. Instead of using Edge as my main character, I was sent out on espionage and information gathering quests with four of his ninja understudies. Each of their tales can be explored separately, and I settled on starting with the old man of the group, Zangetsu. So far, I’m completely unimpressed.

Let’s carry that energy into the Easter stream!

Join me at 10PM Eastern, 9PM Central on our Twitch Channel as I surrender my sanity to Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.

As always, a recording of the stream will be archived on our YouTube channel and embedded below.
