DC Live! Heavy Rain Livestream, Part 1

HeavyRain11252021

Happy Thanksgiving to our readers living in the United States and everyone who celebrates the holiday every November. As a tradition dating back to 2018, Ty and I will be livestreaming a questionable game specifically for your entertainment. Games directed by David Cage have been a contentious issue ever since I streamed Detroit: Become Human in 2020. At some point the Twitch chat regulars decided it would be a good idea for me to stream Heavy Rain. So I decided to save it for Thanksgiving.

Heavy Rain takes place in a “city located between Washington, D.C. and New York City.” While the game’s city is never named, it’s very much my hometown of Philadelphia. In this city a series of murders have been committed by a serial killer dubbed “the Origami Killer.” They received the name because of their penchant for leaving origami figures near their victims’ bodies. Ethan Mars is a happily married man and a father of two boys. His life suddenly falls apart one day when one of his sons dies in a car accident and eventually his wife divorces him. Fate has worse plans in store for Ethan when his other son is abducted by the Origami Killer. It becomes a race against time for Ethan to find his son and to solve puzzles crafted by the serial killer.

I don’t want to spoil too much of the game before the stream, but it also takes place from the viewpoints of three other characters. Namely, Norman Jayden an FBI agent, Scott Shelby a private investigator, and Madison Paige a journalist. All of them are separately investing the Origami Killer.

Joseph actually reviewed the game for us back when it released in 2010. His overall thoughts were mostly positive, while I’m not a fan of Quantic Dream’s third title. I want to save most of my ranting for the livestream, but I did not like the characters or the gameplay. Like with Detroit, the quicktime events are overused and are annoying. Also, none of the characters and their motivations struck me as compelling. As with most QD games, I’ve only watched others play, but tonight I take the controller for myself. Given my performance in 2020 with QTEs you can expect to entertained as I fail them in the dumbest of ways.

We will be pressing X a lot to Jason.

Join me at 9PM Eastern, 8PM Central on our Twitch Channel as I begrudgingly play Heavy Rain.

As always, a recording of the stream will be archived on our YouTube channel and embedded below.
