DC Live! Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, Part 1 Livestream

Ff4tay 03

It’s time that I finally begin Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. This is a stream that I’ve been putting off for the better part of a month now. Honestly, I had no intentions of playing this game, but I knew this is what Drew wanted me to play after he requested I stream Final Fantasy IV in 2022. We removed game redemption options, so the only way he’d see his request fulfilled is if I did so on my own.

You’re welcome, Drew.

For everyone else who knows what The After Years portends, I’m sorry.

I remember when this sequel was announced 15 years ago, and I was dumbfounded. Not by the revelation of a Final Fantasy sequel, as Final Fantasy X-2 had come out in 2003. What struck me as odd, was splitting the game into parts, and them being sold individually at a higher price than a single version of the game. How we’ve come full circle as Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is set to release later this month. (Square Enix is consistent at least.) The more I heard about The After Years from places such as Retronauts, the now defunct Active Time Babble podcast, and from less than glowing impressions on this blog, I knew the game would be a hard skip. Again, I’m only livestreaming my possible suffering as a request.

Thanks to Joseph’s diligence regarding his Final Fantasy IV coverage, I don’t need to write about this sequel more than I just did. He provided his impressions of the first quarter of this game in 2009. Then purchased all four parts on WiiWare for his complete review. I encourage you to read his review for better context on this game if you haven’t already played. Unlike Joseph, I’ll be playing the PSP version via my PlayStation TV. The same way I played FFIV. I’m told this is one of the best ways to experience the game.

Nevertheless, I feel like my run of The After Years will not be fun. I mean, there are 13 chapters total– another bad sign. I predict I’ll find parts of this game to be extremely annoying, but I’ll likely enjoy it more than Final Fantasy VIII. Maybe once I’m done in April or May, we’ll see how on or off the mark my enjoyment predictions were.

Join me at 8PM Eastern, 7PM Central on our Twitch Channel I surrender my sanity to Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.

As always, a recording of the stream will be archived on our YouTube channel and embedded below.
