DC Live! SteamWorld Dig, Part 1 Livestream

steamworlddig-10092022

It’s a new week and I have the pleasure of starting a new game. Tonight I’ll be taking my first steps into SteamWorld Dig: A Fistful of Dirt. This title was originally released on the 3DS on August 8, 2013. While I’d heard of the game series, I never got around to trying any of the games. The original SteamWorld Dig is well-regarded by both critics and gamers. I don’t play many Metroidvania style games especially on stream. (They’re definitely more of Drew’s specialty.) I decided to take this game suggestion from a friend– the game being short was also a factor. Additionally, the line “SteamWorld Dig is sort of like an open-world Dig Dug,” from Destructoid’s review definitely caught my attention.

In the future (past? present?) humanity is gone. Humans ceased to exist sometime in the 1800s and have been replaced by steam-powered robots. Also, the Wild West still exists. Rusty is a mining steambot who has arrived at Tumbleton, a mining town in need of his digging services. The only way forward is below, and that’s achieved by digging.

SteamWorld Dig was developed and published by Image & Form International AB. Again, its first release was on the 3DS in 2013. Since then the game and its sequels have been ported to other platforms. In fact, much of the series is playable on just about every console and handheld released since 2013. Which amusingly includes Google Stadia, at least for the next few months. I will be partaking in this adventure on the PS4.

Join me at 8PM Eastern, 7PM Central on our Twitch Channel as I tunnel my way to adventure in SteamWorld Dig.

As always, a recording of the stream will be archived on our YouTube channel and embedded below.
