DC Live! Final Fantasy VIII, Part 2 Livestream

FinalFantasyVIII01-05012022

I’m off to a good start in Final Fantasy VIII. I fought and beat several bosses, met some of the cast, and started to learn the basic of the Draw & Junction system. Squall passed his school’s test with flying colors and is now a member of SeeD. Zell is both annoying and interesting. Seifer remains an asshole. Selphie is currently my favorite character. Quistis seems unfit to be an instructor and Squall simply doesn’t give a damn– much to her chagrin. Poor lady.

If I’m being honest, I’d be lost without the Twitch chat when it comes to the Draw & Junction system. Explaining it is a headache inducing process and I still feel like I don’t quite get it.

  • Magic shouldn’t be cast directly from characters.
  • Draw it from enemies.
  • Junction the magic to the characters to improve their stats.

It’s definitely one of the strangest systems I’ve used in a JRPG and it may replace Final Fantasy II for my most disliked battle system in the series. I don’t know yet.

I also know that I probably should be playing Triple Triad to gain better items, but I simply don’t feel like learning yet another system in an overly complex game. Maybe I’ll try my hand off stream. For now, I’d like to feel more confident with the gameplay I’m currently facing.

On the upside, Final Fantasy VIII has some of the best music in the series. The Remaster looks nice (the 3X speed is a godsend) and the story has my full attention.

Join me at 7PM Eastern, 6PM Central on our Twitch Channel as I explore Final Fantasy VIII and it’s weirdly complex Draw & Junction system.

As always, a recording of the stream will be archived on our YouTube channel and embedded below.
