Semantic Nonsense: Ringing in the new year

nonsense

One thing I’ve done at the start of the year for quite a while now is set some goals. Not a resolution, mind you; those never work. This is more like planning things out how to get where I want to get, not blurting out to everyone for 2 weeks that I’m going to climb Mt. Everest and then spending the following 50 pretending I never said anything of the sort.

So here are my goals for the new year… at least the ones related to my content for Damage Control. I’m not sure if this is going to land on an interesting number or not; my goal is to just crank them out until I’m done.

And if any of you expect one of my goals to be to stop using Damage Control as a personal blog? I have but one response.

You might not have noticed this, but out of 143 editions of Quarantine Control, I have contributed just twice. Twice. While it was unrealistic for me to contribute more previously,
I have a little more time now for writing. As such, I have decided that, except for features and other special occasions, I will be saving any reviews I choose to write for use in Quarantine Control this year.

Side-by-side with this is an expectation to see more movies as they come out, as I’m getting more comfortable with returning to the movie theaters I’ve adored so much. This has been the single greatest factor in the decline of movie review posts these past few years both in that I haven’t seen them and also that fewer movies got released to begin with.

I’ve rather enjoyed the entire process of me eating Kit Kats becoming a Damage Control meme. But it (and chicken sandwiches) have not been without consequences. I need to make much more progress trimming down than I have been, and if I want Kit Kats to continue to be a fun thing for us, that’s going to mean putting in the work elsewhere to make up for it.

The only outstanding stream request I have left after putting my nose to the grindstone and blasting through the backlog last year is Angela’s assignment of Persona 4 Arena. However, it’s a story sequel to Persona 4, which I own and want to play, but never have. Which is an extension of a deeper, dirtier secret: that I never finished my playthrough of Persona 3: FES, which I loved dearly until I got preoccupied by life and negligently never returned to it. So I want to finish all three this year, though you’ll only see Arena on stream. Of all my goals, this one is probably the greatest stretch.

And that’s all I can think of that’s relevant that I can tie in. That doesn’t mean I don’t have some new content ideas to try out this year… but you’ll just have to wait and see them as they come.
