We Now Have Ways to Support Us– By Mildly Popular Request

Many creators can have a hard time asking their audience for financial help. This is doubly true for a beloved project that’s not completely dependent on bringing in income.

For years, that’s how I’ve run Damage Control. Server costs were funded out of my own pocket, despite offers of assistance. Things changed a bit when Drew, our forward-thinking Features Editor, felt like at a minimum this blog should generate enough money to cover hosting costs. We kicked around the idea of starting a Patreon years ago, but it was difficult deciding on any exclusive content. We decided on a tip jar for the time being, but yet the Patreon sat unused. Things then changed a bit more when Drew led the way with livestreaming and I followed a short time later with my own streams.

Thanks to help from the community (special shoutout to Magnus Surtsson for all of his help) we were able to make Twitch Affiliate a few years ago. Thanks to many of your subscriptions and Twitch bits donations, we’ve been able to bring in a modest amount of money. That money has been used to improve our streaming equipment and to purchase more equipment. Currently we are helping Geoff, our News Editor, join those of us on staff who stream.

Thanks to this source of income from Twitch, I felt like I didn’t need to worry much about launching the Patreon and I put it on the back-burner. That said, we’d still get the occasional inquiry about other ways to donate besides Twitch (since they take half of what’s pledged for a sub).

Fortunately, a good competitor to Patreon in the form of Ko-fi came along with lower fees and one time donation options instead of reoccurring subscriptions. A friend of the blog noted that we could also set up a donations page or a money request page with PayPal. After too much procrastination, I finally got around to making live Ko-fi and PayPal donation pages.

If you’d like to support us here are the ways you can. (Also there is now a “Ways to Support Us” page directly on this blog and on our Twitch page.)

You can also donate directly to us via PayPal.

Thanks for all of your continued support throughout the years in many shapes and forms!
