Treasure Hunter March 2017 – Back by Unpopular Request

Anima: Gate of Memories | Release: March 21 | Price: $49.99 | Publisher: Badland Games

I’m not even going to lie, Anima: Gate of Memories is an action RPG that completely went under my radar, but it was released in 2016. I only found the game when I did a double check of GameStop’s March releases and saw it listed despite not being exclusive to GS. You can also buy it from NIS America despite them not being the publisher. Anima sounds pretty rote– a monster and a girl who lost her memory and a war brewing in the distance. The Beyond Fantasy Edition (these LE names…) includes a 52-page hardcover art book, the soundtrack (25 songs total), a tarot card deck, an art print, and a spiffy box to hold your collector’s fantasy. The fact that Anima is a standard price despite having an extensive LE gives me pause regarding the game’s overall quality. However, the game ranges from mediocre to decent on Metacritic. If you want a decent JRPG with a nice collector’s edition, Anima could be for you.

Attack on Titan: Junior High | Release: March 21 | Price: $84.98 | Publisher: FUNimation

Imagine if Attack on Titan were less gritty and serious, more comedic, took place inside of a Japanese-style high school and each episode was only a few minutes long. That is Attack on Titan: Junior High in a nutshell. Sure titans still harass humanity (and also go to school), but nothing is meant to be taken seriously. FUNimation is taking the Limited Edition seriously by including a 48-page booklet and a wall-cling with the series.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix | Release: March 28 | Price: $49.99 | Publisher: Square Enix

Yet another Kingdom Hearts HD remix enters the ring in the long lead up to Kingdom Hearts III. If you’ve missed the Kingdom Hearts games, this remix has you covered with HD remasters of the original PS2 games and includes the DS and PSP games. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Limited Edition equals one of the skimpiest limited editions I’ve ever covered. This LE only comes with a pin and is exclusive to the Square Enix North American Store. That’s all you get. At least the game isn’t outrageously priced.

MLB The Show 17 | Release: March 28 | Price: $99.99 | Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment America

I highly doubt we have too many sports games fans reading this blog. If we do, please correct me. Still, I want to cover limited edition releases, thus the inclusion of MLB The Show 17 Hall of Fame Edition. This GameStop exclusive gives you an extra dose of baseball glory by including a New Era hat in addition to a steel book, and lots of digital goodies– although 31 PS4 themes sounds like overkill.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? | Release: March 28 | Price: $139.98 | Publisher: Sentai Filmworks

The age old question of “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” simply has to be asked. This anime is actually a fantasy about adventurers and their various guilds fighting and exploring an underground dungeon. The odd title comes from Bell, our hero, who hears that dungeons are a great place to meet and rescue girls. Instead, he’s the one who ends up being rescued time and time again. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is one of those shows that can appeal to JRPG nerds since its structure is similar to the genre. The Premium Edition with its hardcover booklet, poster, cards, and even a Grimoire will also appeal to collectors.

Deformers | Release: March 31 | Price: $39.99 | Publisher: Game Trust

Deformers is a multiplayer arena brawler that’s also physics-based. The look of this game is definitely cute and probably trends on the side of pure fun. With Ready at Dawn developing the game, it is worth checking out if arena brawlers are your jam. The Collector’s Edition launches onto the scene with the soundtrack on disc, a steelbook, four vinyl figures, and three stickers.

Whew! Somehow I made it through the first Treasure Hunter I’ve written in years. Look forward to next month. (I know I am with Persona 5 dropping and all.)
