13 predictions for 2013
|In light of Kotaku’s crazy RPG predictions, I thought it would be fun to make a few of my own while trying to make them sane.
Your millage may vary on whether or not I succeed in that endeavor. That being said, I promise to look back at what went wrong come this years’ end.
Here’s 13 of my predictions for 2013, ranging from gutless to obscure.
- The NA release of Rebuild of Evangelion’s third film will be delayed to 2014 for inadequately explored reasons.
- The Wii U will become a quiet success; it won’t achieve the fame of the Wii, but will push decent numbers.
- A single new toon will appear on HomestarRunner.com in the middle of the year, but that’s all we’re getting.
- Microsoft will unveil a new xBox before Sony announces the PS4.
- DC will cancel and replace 6 more New 52 titles.
- Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t really playing the villain of the new Star Trek movie.
- The 3DS will see more new RPGs than all other platforms combined.
- Capcom will not release any new Mega Man games aside from XOver.
- ATI’s 8XXX series GPUs will not exert enough pressure on NVIDIA to cause price drops in their 6XX series, nor will it hasten the release of a 7XX series.
- Apple will (finally) update the Mac Pro, but not redesign it. BONUS: Apple will not launch a new product line (like, say, an HDTV set).
- More anime companies will refuse to allow the original vocal tracks on North American releases.
- Sony will bet heavily on new products to turn around its bottom line and loose big, but will survive.
- Moviegoers will get over the Real 3D fad — and ticket numbers will show it — but studios will still cling to the idea. (Or was that this year?)

“The 3DS will see more new RPGs than all other platforms combined. ”
Given the lineup for the first half of this year I can easily see that happening. We already have Etrian Odyssey IV, Fire Emblem: Awakening and SMT: Soul Hackers to look forward to before May.
