Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is Riding on an Objection

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is gearing
up for a release in a little more than a month, so the final character reveals
are coming at the New York Comic-Con over the next four days. Capcom actually
revealed two of them a little earlier than some of us expected, and one of them
just happens to be one of the most anticipated characters.

Capcom
finally pulled the curtain back on Phoenix Wright, and to say he looks
different than any other character in the game would be a severe
understatement. Wright was anticipated because no one knew how a lawyer and an
ordinary guy like him would fit in a fighting game of all places. It turns out
he does fit in! Though he needed some
ridiculously over-the-top adjustments. His finger pointing technique even works
as an off-the-ground attack. Quite a few of his special techniques require the
assistance of Maya Fey, and he uses the Judge for one of his Hyper Combos. He
may also have the longest Level 3 Hyper in the game, but man is it worth
seeing. Your opponent probably won’t like it, though, especially since it will
take 600k HP from their character’s health. His English voice is provided by
Sam Riegel
.

Meanwhile,
there’s Nova. I guess he’s cool or something.

Really
though, his moves unfortunately look pretty recycled from many characters
already in the cast (especially his supers), but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t
look good while doing it. He looks like he has a lot of options to use for
combos, and he’s capable of flight. He personally reminds me of Captain Falcon,
though he’s lower on the charming cheesiness factor. He has three Hyper Combos which
are similar to Ryu’s Shinkuu Hadouken, Super Skrull’s Inferno, and somewhat like
Spider-Man’s Maximum Spider. As compensation for having three of those, he has
no Level 3 Hyper. It feels like Capcom ran out of ideas when they got to him,
but he could be fun to use.

Oh, and his
real name is Richard Rider. As you know, a nickname for “Richard” is “Dick,” so…yeah.

Meanwhile,
parts of the internet are both impressed and furious to see this picture on the
background on one of the new stages revealed for the game (click
here for a gigantic version
). If you hadn’t guessed already, it shows the
possible fate for many characters from Marvel
vs. Capcom 2
MIA in UMvC3. Some gamers are a little miffed to see that their favorite character(s) are listed as “slain,”
and I can’t for the life of me figure out why considering it and the background
are an homage to the fantastic X-Men
story “Days of Future Past,” which was from an alternate and depressing future.
I can only assume that everyone upset about it is unfamiliar with it, and that’s
terrible. Meanwhile, everyone else on the picture is “apprehended,” except for
Mega Man, who has no status listed (similar to Wolverine on the
cover of the comic issue
). Could this be hint that he might be DLC?

Of course
not! It’s based on an alternate continuity. Geez, haven’t you been paying
attention?

Stay tuned
for the unveiling of Frank West and Rocket Raccoon, which should happen
sometime before Sunday. Check
