Legends No Longer in the Casket(t)

There are
those who said this day would never come, and I was one of them. I’ve been
waiting a long time for Capcom to make a new Mega Man Legends title, a game that was finally announced at Nintendo
Conference 2010 in Japan today
(well, yesterday in Japan) in Mega Man Legends 3 Project for Nintendo 3DS.  And now I couldn’t be more excited….

…which is
what I would be legitimately saying
if it wasn’t for Capcom’s peculiar showing at Tokyo Game Show this year. Prior
to that, I was hoping Capcom would make new installments for some of their
currently dormant franchises like Breath
of Fire
, Dino Crisis, and, of
course, Mega Man Legends. Now, the thought of them making another one makes me
quiver in fear at the thought of it being outsourced. Fortunately for this
situation, if there’s a game in a franchise whose fate this would befall, it
would be a Dino Crisis title. That’s a shame, too, because I’d like to see Shu
Takumi take on another one, unless he’s working on an Ace Attorney game.

(On second
thought, maybe outsourcing wouldn’t be too bad in that case. Can’t be worse than Dino Crisis 3, right?)

But that’s another topic! Anyway, MML3 doesn’t
look to succumb to this fate, with Keiji Inafune — a man the crazier types
among us want crucified because of certain projects and things he’s said
saying he wants this game to be “good, really good,” according to the
introduction video released. Masakazu Eguchi , of many Mega Man Battle Network titles, has been tasked to direct it. Not
sure if that’s a good thing or not.

The main
question right now is precisely what the “Project” part of the title will
entail. Apparently fans will be able to interact with the development team
during the process. Capcom’s being mum right now on exactly what that means; it could either be great or horrifying. There isn’t much media for the game at the moment, so it’s probably very early in development.

As you can
tell, there isn’t a lot of information on it right now, but it’s comforting to
see that it’s finally coming. The question will be what they plan to do for
people who haven’t played the last three games (including spin-off The Misadventures of Tron Bonne) in the
franchise. Now I’m starting to wish the PSP games were localized, even if they
weren’t the greatest ports. More info will be coming from the New York Comic
Con next weekend, so stay tuned.

What a storm this caused. And it's perfectly understandable too.
